Are you a pre-health student interested in how your vocation can impact the Kingdom of God and His work in the world? Come and listen to a conversation with Dr. Michael Bernardo ’78 and hear the possibilities. Pizza and light refreshments will be served.

Dr. Michael Bernardo graduated with BS in Biology, Cornell Class of ’78 and stayed in Ithaca working in Dept of Entomology on mosquito and black fly transmitted diseases, primarily River Blindness. During that time completed MS in Medical Entomology and Parasitology. In 1985, he moved to NYC to attend Cornell Medical College where he was awarded prize for excellence in the study of Infectious Disease, and the Good Physician Award (as voted on by the graduates to one of their classmates who best exemplifies the qualities of the “good physician”). While completing his residency in Family Medicine at UVA in Charlottesville, VA 1989-1992, Mike met his wife Darly, fellow Family Med resident, and married in 1991. They moved to SC to practice in the small town of Prosperity, in Newberry County where they have been for the last 25 years.  After doing full service family practice (including delivering over 1000 babies), many years of student health at Newberry College, outpatient office work, and hospital care, I am now doing Geriatrics, and Hospice Care full time.

Dr. Bernardo is Clinical Assistant Professor in Family Medicine & Geriatrics at Via College of Medicine (VCOM), and Medical Univ of SC, and was chosen area preceptor of the year, 2016-17 for VCOM. Mike has served with medical mission work in African and Latin America countries. Most recently he has served as Medical Director for Vets with a Mission, an organization of Vietnam Vets who for almost 30 years have done humanitarian medical work in Vietnam. We are now focused on teaching Vietnamese doctors and nurses, as well as med students.

Mike and Darley have 4 children – a son studying to be a Physician Assistant, 3 daughters going to school and working in NYC.
