SUMMARY:Veritas Academy
DESCRIPTION:Veritas Academy 2020 is a 48-hour virtual experience for incoming Cornell first-year and transfer students\, held August 13-14. Led by faculty\, upperclassmen\, alumni\, and campus ministers\, this experience helps incoming students ask the big questions\, design a meaningful college experience\, learn practical tips\, and build a faith community among peers – all before Cornell Orientation begins. Join us for multiple Zoom gatherings over the course of two days to connect and prepare for your Cornell experience. \n\n\n\nChesterton House is a faith-based organization that affirms the Apostles Creed and seeks to serve students by connecting them with important resources for situating the college years within the framework of Christian faith. Chesterton House is an affiliate organization of Cornell University through Cornell United Religious Work. \nWhat Participants Said Last Year: \n“I signed up for Veritas super last minute\, so I had no idea what to expect. But I’m happy to say that it was an absolutely amazing experience that I still remember to this day. Through the time spent with new friends\, the late night worship\, the laughs we had while playing games together\, the morning devotionals\, and the way we explored God in a deeper way than I ever had\, I learned more about myself and grew closer to God. It encouraged me and made me excited to come to Cornell\, and it eased my nervousness about finding a Christian community.” \n“Veritas Academy was an amazing experience for me that pushed me emotionally as well as spiritually. It was the first time I felt free enough to ask academic questions about my faith\, and for that I am eternally grateful. Although a short period of time\, I feel that attending the program gave me like-minded friends with whom I was able to begin my journey at Cornell. I would encourage anyone interested in growing as a person and pushing themselves spiritually\, regardless of knowing what exactly that looks like in this exact moment\, to try and apply for this program.” \nCost: Suggested donation of $40 \nRegister Here!

SUMMARY:Pre-Orientation
DESCRIPTION:The Overnight is a mini-retreat that transitions students from summer into their first year at Cornell. First-year freshman and transfers will join upperclass students prior to orientation in order to meet classmates\, learn about life at Cornell\, and glean wisdom in the context of Christian fellowship. We will spend our time in team-building activities\, learning from a Christian faculty member\, reflecting\, discussing with upperclass students\, strengthening camaraderie through meals\, and relaxing as well. The Overnight will take place August 22-23\, 2019 from Thursday afternoon to Friday morning and the cost is $75. If you are moving into the dorms\, there is a $45 fee for early move-in\, so your total payment will be $120. The program begins with a welcome lunch for you and your family on Thursday at our men’s residential facility. \nWhat Participants Said Last Year: \n“The best part of the Overnight was the bonding that happened so quickly as well as the opportunity to interact with upperclassmen.” \n“It gave me a new perspective and understanding of the role of academics in Christianity and I feel I’ve learned a lot about how to approach the knowledge that college will be giving us.”
