Beginning with the edict of Milan in 313AD\, which legalized Christianity in the Roman Empire\, continuing through the Nicene Creed\, the 95 Theses which kicked off the Protestant reformation\, and ending with the second Vatican council in the 1960s\, this book is an approachable introduction to the generations of Christians who have come before us. \nREGISTER HERE! \nJoin us for dessert at 115 The Knoll for a time of reading and discussion together! \nWe hope to see you there!

We welcome all to join regardless of religious affiliations. \nThis multi-level experience will allow you to slow down and absorb these fascinating and complex texts without pressure or expectation. \n\nWhat is the value of the Public Reading of Scripture?\nAs we listen to the text being read aloud\,  we are automatically forced slow down and only read at the pace of the reader. \nReading scripture aloud in community is an ancient practice\, before books were widely distributed (or easily replicated) the main way these texts were shared was as they were read aloud in group settings. \nReading through the whole Bible offers an experience like no other- no skipping over the uncomfortable or focusing on your favorite verses\, parables\, or stories. \nEvery Tuesday! We’ll be here every week this semester\, and we can’t wait for you to join us!

DESCRIPTION:Join us on a guided journey in our award-winning Logos Seminar (which earned Chesterton House an Oases of Excellence designation from the American Council of Trustees and Alumni). The Logos Seminar takes a small cohort of students through the classical Christian tradition and its critics\, allowing them to hear from world-class Christian scholars and providing the opportunity to approach various viewpoints from a charitable\, challenging\, and curious perspective in a hospitable setting. \nIt offers students a rare chance to deliberate together on some of the most contested topics—topics that\, when brought up on campus\, often find themselves in a skeptical or even hostile environment. \nCo-taught by Biblical scholar Dr. Jimmy Myers and philosopher Dr. Vivek Mathew\, sessions will be a mix of foundational study of classical Christian (and anti-Christian) texts\, fundamental issues in Biblical studies and hermeneutics\, and an introduction to a wide variety of Christian (and non-Christian) perspectives on challenging contemporary topics. \nBeginning again on Monday\, February 2\, our meetings will be selected Monday evenings from 6:30pm–9pm at 111 The Knoll during the semester.  \nDinner will be provided! \n*Please note that this is a closed course and acceptance is required before attending. \napply today \nmore information \n

DESCRIPTION:Join us Friday mornings for our Public Reading of Scripture and a free breakfast on the Knoll! \n  \nOur Public Reading of Scripture events are a time to gather in community to hear The Bible read aloud while sharing a meal. \nAll you have to do is listen. \nThis multi-level experience will allow you to slow down and absorb the Word of God without pressure or expectation. \n  \nWhy Join Public Reading of Scripture\nThe Bible is a Key\nThe Bible has had such an impact in the history of humanity\, learning more about what it says and teaches will unlock a new understanding to history and literature. \nIt’s a Biblical Practice\nIn Scripture we often see God’s people receive God’s Word aloud together as a community. \nSpiritual Food\nWhile we are all very aware that we need food to duel our physical bodies\, reading scripture is a spiritual discipline we can practice to feed ourselves spiritually. \nA Better Bible Strategy\nIt takes 90 hours to listen to the Bible in it’s entirety\, yet hardly anyone every reads through it all. Many of us want to read more of the Bible\, but few have a disciplined strategy to succeed. Reading/hearing Scripture aloud in community makes it easy as you listen while you eat and find a small community of people who journey through the Bible with you over the year. \nHope to see you on the Knoll!

DESCRIPTION:Join us Friday mornings for our Public Reading of Scripture and a free breakfast on the Knoll! \n  \nOur Public Reading of Scripture events are a time to gather in community to hear The Bible read aloud while sharing a meal. \nAll you have to do is listen. \nThis multi-level experience will allow you to slow down and absorb the Word of God without pressure or expectation. \n  \nWhy Join Public Reading of Scripture\nThe Bible is a Key\nThe Bible has had such an impact in the history of humanity\, learning more about what it says and teaches will unlock a new understanding to history and literature. \nIt’s a Biblical Practice\nIn Scripture we often see God’s people receive God’s Word aloud together as a community. \nSpiritual Food\nWhile we are all very aware that we need food to duel our physical bodies\, reading scripture is a spiritual discipline we can practice to feed ourselves spiritually. \nA Better Bible Strategy\nIt takes 90 hours to listen to the Bible in it’s entirety\, yet hardly anyone every reads through it all. Many of us want to read more of the Bible\, but few have a disciplined strategy to succeed. Reading/hearing Scripture aloud in community makes it easy as you listen while you eat and find a small community of people who journey through the Bible with you over the year. \nHope to see you on the Knoll!

Children are killed while praying at Mass. Humans are trafficked and sold into slavery. Entire people groups face starvation and death as casualties of war and genocide. Where is God as all this takes place? Why doesn’t God protect these precious creatures made in his image? Why isn’t God more active in battling the evil that exists in the world? \nIs God willing to act\, but not able? Then isn’t he weak? Is God able but not willing? Then isn’t he evil himself? Is God both able and willing? Then why is there any evil at all? What if the right question is not “why does a good God let these things happen?” but rather “which philosophy provides the best resources for responding to evil?” The presence of evil in this world is a problem for atheists as much as theists– but what if the very fact that Christians name what is seen as “evil” shows that Christianity takes evil more seriously than other philosophies? What if the very idea of evil does not ultimately call God’s existence into question\, but serves as an argument for God’s existence? \nJoin us as we consider these questions and welcome award-winning author Paul Copan\, the Pledger Family Chair of Philosophy and Ethics at Palm Beach Atlantic University. He has authored more than 50 books\, including the popular Is God a Moral Monster? and its companion volume\, the award-winning Is God a Vindictive Bully? DESCRIPTION:Chesterton House’s Theological Society presents: \nIs the True God of the Bible Nonviolent? Making sense of God’s coercion in the Old Testament and the New\nSeptember 25th\, 2025 | 1:00pm \nemail to register \nReaders of the Old and New Testament cannot escape being confronted by morally challenging passages. How are we to understand God’s injunctions to drive out the Canaanites from the land\, to utterly wipe out the Amalekites\, and the many stories that depict God acting violently against many peoples\, including his own people Israel? \nOne option is to deny that any of these things actually originated in God\, on the hypothesis that God reveals himself definitively in Jesus Christ in his power-surrendering\, non-violent\, and self-giving love on the cross. This is the route that pastor and theologian Gregory Boyd has taken. With a christocentric hermeneutic in hand\, he reinterprets OT passages and argues that coercive force never in fact stems from God or is commanded by God; to the contrary\, God hates violence through and through. \nPhilosopher and apologist Paul Copan\, on the other hand\, argues that Boyd underestimates indications of God’s coercive judgment that are revealed in the New Covenant itself\, thus leading to a view that stresses greater continuity between the Old and New Testament depictions of God. \nJoin us as at Theological Society on Sept 18\, 2025 at 1pm\, as we welcome Paul Copan in person to wrestle through these matters and engage him in conversation. The Logos Seminar takes a small cohort of students through the classical Christian tradition and its critics\, allowing them to hear from world-class Christian scholars and providing the opportunity to approach various viewpoints from a charitable\, challenging\, and curious perspective in a hospitable setting. \nIt offers students a rare chance to deliberate together on some of the most contested topics—topics that\, when brought up on campus\, often find themselves in a skeptical or even hostile environment. \nCo-taught by Biblical scholar Dr. Jimmy Myers and philosopher Dr. Vivek Mathew\, sessions will be a mix of foundational study of classical Christian (and anti-Christian) texts\, fundamental issues in Biblical studies and hermeneutics\, and an introduction to a wide variety of Christian (and non-Christian) perspectives on challenging contemporary topics. \nBeginning again on Monday\, February 2\, our meetings will be selected Monday evenings from 6:30pm–9pm at 111 The Knoll during the semester.  \nDinner will be provided! \n*Please note that this is a closed course and acceptance is required before attending. \napply today \nmore information \n

DESCRIPTION:Join us Friday mornings for our Public Reading of Scripture and a free breakfast on the Knoll! \n  \nOur Public Reading of Scripture events are a time to gather in community to hear The Bible read aloud while sharing a meal. \nAll you have to do is listen. \nThis multi-level experience will allow you to slow down and absorb the Word of God without pressure or expectation. \n  \nWhy Join Public Reading of Scripture\nThe Bible is a Key\nThe Bible has had such an impact in the history of humanity\, learning more about what it says and teaches will unlock a new understanding to history and literature. \nIt’s a Biblical Practice\nIn Scripture we often see God’s people receive God’s Word aloud together as a community. \nSpiritual Food\nWhile we are all very aware that we need food to duel our physical bodies\, reading scripture is a spiritual discipline we can practice to feed ourselves spiritually. \nA Better Bible Strategy\nIt takes 90 hours to listen to the Bible in it’s entirety\, yet hardly anyone every reads through it all. Many of us want to read more of the Bible\, but few have a disciplined strategy to succeed. Reading/hearing Scripture aloud in community makes it easy as you listen while you eat and find a small community of people who journey through the Bible with you over the year. \nHope to see you on the Knoll!

DESCRIPTION:Join as you can for our Just Show Up book club! \nJust Show Up (JSU) Book Club is a book club without homework where people gather to read\, listen\, and discuss great books together.  No need to commit to joining every week\, the beauty of JSU book clubs is that you can jump in at any point and there is no preparation required! Participants can join in-person or via Zoom. \nWe will meet every Wednesday at 115 The Knoll\, beginning on September 3rd.  \nOur first book of the year is: Christian History in Seven Sentences\, by Jennifer Woodruff Tait. \nConsisting of 7 chapters\, each “sentence” is an excerpt from a historical document that was written at a pivotal moment in Christian history. Beginning with the edict of Milan in 313AD\, which legalized Christianity in the Roman Empire\, continuing through the Nicene Creed\, the 95 Theses which kicked off the Protestant reformation\, and ending with the second Vatican council in the 1960s\, this book is an approachable introduction to the generations of Christians who have come before us. \nREGISTER HERE! \nJoin us for dessert at 115 The Knoll for a time of reading and discussion together! \nWe hope to see you there!
