SUMMARY:Public Reading of Scripture in Sage Chapel
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we partake in the spiritual practice of hearing Scripture being read aloud in the beautiful Sage Chapel\, and snag a free lunch!\n \nWhy join in Scripture being read aloud? \n\nIt is a Biblical practice\nIn Scripture we often see God’s people receive God’s Word together as a community.\nReading the Bible should be like eating food\nWe should enjoy our spiritual food the same way we enjoy our physical food!\nWe need a better Bible strategy\nCollege is a key time to read through the entire Bible at least once. Many of us want to read more of the Bible\, but few have a disciplined strategy to succeed. Reading/hearing Scripture aloud in community makes it easy as you listen while you eat and find a small community of people who journey through the Bible with you over the year.

SUMMARY:Public Reading of Scripture
DESCRIPTION:Join us Friday mornings for our Public Reading of Scripture on the Knoll! \n  \nOur Public Reading of Scripture events are a time to gather in community to hear The Bible read aloud while sharing a meal. \nAll you have to do is listen. \nThis multi-level experience will allow you to slow down and absorb the Word of God without pressure or expectation. \n  \nWhy Join Public Reading of Scripture\nThe Bible is a Key\nThe Bible has had such an impact in the history of humanity\, learning more about what it says and teaches will unlock a new understanding to history and literature. \nIt’s a Biblical Practice\nIn Scripture we often see God’s people receive God’s Word aloud together as a community. \nSpiritual Food\nWhile we are all very aware that we need food to duel our physical bodies\, reading scripture is a spiritual discipline we can practice to feed ourselves spiritually. \nA Better Bible Strategy\nIt takes 90 hours to listen to the Bible in it’s entirety\, yet hardly anyone every reads through it all. Many of us want to read more of the Bible\, but few have a disciplined strategy to succeed. Reading/hearing Scripture aloud in community makes it easy as you listen while you eat and find a small community of people who journey through the Bible with you over the year. \nHope to see you on the Knoll!

SUMMARY:Sunday Night Dinner on the Knoll
DESCRIPTION:Sunday Night Dinners are such a space where our living-learning community extends hospitality to students and faculty over a home-cooked meal (or occasional catered in meal) and rich discussion. \nPRAXIS dinners focus on small group discussion on a particular prompt designed to help us think through how to practice the presence of God. \nAll are welcome to join for a free meal followed by group discussion of a selected reading from the historic Christian tradition. \n

SUMMARY:TASTING GOD: Poetry of the Incarnation
DESCRIPTION:Wednesday Evenings | January 18 – February 8 \n8:15pm – 9:30pm Eastern\n7:15pm – 8:30pm Central\n6:15 – 7:30pm Mountain\n5:15 – 6:30pm Pacific \nRegister Here \nTASTING GOD: Poetry of the Incarnation\nWhat does it mean for God to be described as a grain of wheat\, thrashed to pieces and baked into bread? Or a living book\, with our names written in the heart of the body? Central to Christian faith is the idea that God became human in the incarnation. We will explore poetry that helps us experience the beauty and strangeness of this central belief. Likely authors include John Donne\, George Herbert\, Langston Hughes\, and Luci Shaw. \n  \nFacilitated by: \nDr. Hannah Eagleson\nPh.D in Early Modern Literature\, University of Delaware; MA in Liberal Arts\, St. John’s College\nChesterton House Director of Graduate & Faculty Engagement\nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Public Reading of Scripture
DESCRIPTION:Join us Friday mornings for our Public Reading of Scripture on the Knoll! \n  \nWhy do we think it’s important to read the scriptures aloud\, together? Well\, turns out this is the way that early Christians initially received and continued to share the good news about Jesus Christ….and tell the epic\, ever-expansive story that God chooses to reveal through ridiculously –ordinary- people. \n  \nWe won’t shy away from grisly and confusing passages\, because we trust that wrestling through the text in its fullness –together- is worth it. \n  \nCuriosity piqued? Grab a friend and join us this Friday at 9am \n  \nHope to see you on the Knoll!

SUMMARY:Love of Neighbor and the Dismal Science: Economics for Christians
DESCRIPTION:We regret to inform you that our upcoming event with Chris Barrett will be postponed until further notice. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. \nIf you have already registered for the event\, we will be sure to inform you of when we have details of the rescheduled date. Please keep an eye on your emails for further details. \n  \n  \n  \nChesterton Perspectives brings you: \nLove of Neighbor and the Dismal Science: Economics for Christians\nA Conversation with Chris Barrett Stephen B. and Janice G. Ashley Professor of Applied Economics and Management and International Professor of Agriculture\, Cornell University \nDecember 5th\, 2022\n7:30pm ET in person at 111 The Knoll Rd\n7:45pm ET via Zoom\n\nRegister Here \nChris Barrett will be joining a live gathered audience at The Knoll. \n\nJesus’ commandment to love our neighbor as ourselves (MT 22:39) invites action. We then inevitably confront the difficult foundational questions of economics: Scarce resources necessitate tradeoffs\, so what is the best use of limited time\, talent and treasure? Since individual actions respond to structural incentives and constraints and may be dwarfed by broader (market or other) forces\, how should we act and assess others’ actions? Given human sinfulness\, what policies can induce behaviors that reduce material suffering of the poor? Join us in conversation with Chris Barrett\, Prof. of Applied Economics and Management\, of Agriculture\, and of Public Policy as we learn about development\, agricultural and resource economics\, poverty traps\, food insecurity\, how economic models can inform and mislead\, and more. \n\nChris Barrett Ph.D\, Professor of Applied Economics and Management and International Professor of Agriculture\, Cornell University\nChris Barrett is Stephen B. and Janice G. Ashley Professor of Applied Economics and Management\, and an international professor of agriculture at the Charles H. Dyson School of Applied Economics and Management\, as well as a professor in Jeb E. Brooks School of Public Policy and a Senior Faculty Fellow of the Cornell Atkinson Center for Sustainability\, all at Cornell University. He is co-editor-in-chief of the journal Food Policy\, edits the Palgrave Macmillan book series Agricultural Economics and Food Policy\, and co-edits the Elsevier Handbook of Agricultural Economics\, volumes 5 and 6. He has won several university\, national\, and international awards for teaching\, research and public outreach\, and is an elected member of the National Academy of Sciences and fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science\, the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association\, and the African Association of Agricultural Economists. \nRegister Here

SUMMARY:Public Reading of Scripture at Sage Chapel
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we partake in the spiritual practice of hearing Scripture being read aloud in the beautiful Sage Chapel\, and snag a free lunch!  \nWhy join in Scripture being read aloud? \n\nIt is a Biblical practice\nIn Scripture we often see God’s people receive God’s Word together as a community.\nReading the Bible should be like eating food\nWe should enjoy our spiritual food the same way we enjoy our physical food!\nWe need a better Bible strategy\nCollege is a key time to read through the entire Bible at least once. Many of us want to read more of the Bible\, but few have a disciplined strategy to succeed. Reading/hearing Scripture aloud in community makes it easy as you listen while you eat and find a small community of people who journey through the Bible with you over the year.\n\nJoin us Wednesdays at Sage Chapel (or Fridays on the Knoll) to hear God speak\, live out God’s Word\, and grow closer to God.
