Introduction to Biblical Greek will meet on a weekly basis, with coursework expected to equate to 1 hour of personal study each day and 2 hours of class time per week. After 8 months of diligent studying, you will be able to translate through the entirety of 1 John! This immersive course is designed for anyone who wants to read the Bible in its original language but has struggled to find the structure or motivation to learn on their own. Whether the idea has felt too daunting or you’ve attempted self-study without success, this course provides the guidance, accountability, and framework needed to build real proficiency in Koine Greek.
Led by Jimmy Myers, Senior Post-Doctoral Fellow at Chesterton House and former Greek instructor at Duke Divinity School, the course transforms the memorization of grammar and vocabulary into something surprisingly joyful. Through thoughtful teaching methods—including rhythm, repetition, and even song—Jimmy creates an engaging learning environment that helps the language take root. Students commit to one hour of daily study and two hours of weekly instruction, mirroring the steady discipline of physical training.
With consistent practice, students will develop the foundational skills needed to begin reading scripture directly from the Greek text. By the end of the course, you will be able to read and translate the entire book of 1 John, gaining not only linguistic competence but also a deeper, richer understanding of the biblical narrative. For those longing to move beyond translations and encounter scripture firsthand, this course offers both the challenge and the joy of learning to read the Bible in its original language.
